Can Manchester City win the UEFA Champions League, FA Cup and the Premier League?
After Manchester City’s impressive performance, Bernardo Silva stated the obvious. “Of course, the treble is still possible because we’re still in three competitions,” said the Portugal star, winger, and sometimes left back on City’s more dominant 2023 squad.
“We have reached the Champions League semifinals and the FA Cup final. We are currently in an excellent position to compete for the Premier League.”
It amplifies the harmonics. Manchester United claims to be the only English club to have won the Premier League, FA Cup, and Champions League in the same season. Man City has 11 games remaining to cement their dominance in the City of Manchester.
By defeating City in the FA Cup final on June 3, United will be able to end City’s winning sequence and maintain Old Trafford as the only venue in England where all three titles can be hosted simultaneously.
The Experienced Side
Erling Haaland‘s debut at the beginning of the 2022–2023 Premier League season appeared to bring City to a new level of dominance, as the massive Norwegian set record after record. But throughout most of the season, they could not match Arsenal’s consistency.
The City’s competence and Arsenal’s dearth thereof are not apparent until the conclusion of the article. Even though Arsenal had performed well throughout the season, they were completely defeated.
They abruptly resembled what they had been for the past decade: a team vying for a place in the top six, not a contender for the championship.
With its superior skill and greater experience, City swiftly eliminated them.
However, City’s current form is such that the triple has gone from impossible to almost certain. If Arsenal had won at the Etihad, City’s surge could have been completely halted, but they never came close.
By defeating Mikel Arteta’s squad, which had been atop the Premier League table for 28 days while City had only been there for four, City has assumed complete control of the title race. Despite playing two fewer games than Arsenal, they trail by only two points. They will be four points clear of the competition if they win both games. However, if they tie both games, they can still claim the lead due to their superior goal differential.
The Last Lap
“The next three games are crucial,” said Guardiola. “We’ll have to wait and see what happens game by game. Today’s reality may appear simplistic, but Arsenal leads us in the standings.
Many times under Pep Guardiola, Manchester City has finished second in the Champions League. In 2022/23, the northwest team may eventually win Europe. Their 4-1 aggregate victory over Bayern Munich was impressive, and it appears that they will win the Champions League.
Manchester City has appeared likely to win in recent weeks, as they have not lost in 16 games across all competitions and are improving with each match.
Guardiola’s squad has scored freely, anchored by the indefatigable Erling Haaland, whose 32 Premier League goals through 38 games are tied for the record for a 38-game season with eight games remaining.
United at Wembley and Real Madrid in the two-legged Champions League quarterfinal stand between them and the treble in the remaining 11 games: seven in the league, one in the FA Cup, and three in the Champions League (if they reach the final).
On Sunday, May 28, 2022/23, the 2022/23 Premier League season will conclude. Manchester City must travel to Brentford on the last day of the season, while Arsenal will host Wolves.
