Inter Milan has long been regarded as one of Europe’s “elite” soccer teams. They have won the European Cup/Champions League on three separate occasions, in 1963-64, 1964-65, and 2009-10. City, on the other hand, joined this group of clubs much later, and after more than a decade of attempts, they have yet to claim their first victory in Europe’s premier division.
Inter defeated AC Milan 3-0 over two legs in the semifinals to advance to their first European final since Jose Mourinho led them to a record-setting treble in 2010.
Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City team defeated the incumbent champion Real Madrid 5-1 in the semifinals to advance to their second final in three years.
Manchester City vs Inter: the first time
Even though both teams are among the finest in Europe, they have never met in a European tournament. This is the first season in which both teams have advanced beyond the group stage, making it less probable that they will meet.

This Madrid squad gives the impression that they will always find a way back, in part because they have won 14 European Cups in the past. Not in this instance.

It was a very significant occasion in City’s history. They were about to win their fifth Premier League championship in six years, and the FA Cup final versus Manchester United was approaching. But it was essentially irrelevant.

This is the event that the entire club, from the president down, has been anticipating. At the beginning of the match, Madrid appeared to be the team to defeat, as they had won five of the previous nine UEFA Champions League titles.
But City understood from the beginning that they needed to stand up for themselves. It was astonishing how they did it.
The sky-blue uniforms of Guardiola’s squad animated the press, movements, and interaction. Madrid was placed between two very deep banks. Or go into survival mode. Luka Modric represented their early difficulties. In the first 20 minutes, he should only have passed once. This is not the intended course of events.
Man City was winning every game, while Madrid appeared to be in disbelief. They were in a terrifying situation, and Silva’s second goal made it even worse. Grealish had entered the field from the left flank, and when his teammates retreated, he blasted a pass to Ilkay Gündogan.
The midfielder defeated Courtois with his twirling toes. The ball was lofted to Silva, who headed it with composure. Before halftime, Akanji would draw near, and Madrid would be unable to flee the field in time.
