Nigerian performer Asake has unlocked a brand new single ‘2:30.’ The flavoursome jam sees Asake blend infectious hooks, clever wordplay, and pulsating production.
Moulded by Magicsticks and BlaiseBeatz, the song is a celebration of authenticity and individuality, about embracing one’s true self and recognizing the value that comes from one’s roots.
“2:30” is the second single of the year for him, following the success of “Yoga” released earlier in the year. The song brings together luxurious, dreamy Afrobeats with highly energetic, IDM-influenced percussion, resulting in a satisfying blend of textures. This is a combination he has explored previously, but it remains innovative and exciting.
Asake recently linked up with Davido for a new song, “No Competition,” had a significant breakthrough in 2022 with the release of his debut album, “Mr Money With the Vibe,” in September. The melodic new cut is set to appear on a full-length project expected to arrive later this year.
The project set the record for the highest-charting Nigerian debut album of all-time, entering the Billboard 200 albums chart in the 66th spot.
The single “2:30” also arrives with a lavish music video, which was directed by Edgar Esteves and shot in Los Angeles. In the video, Asake is seen sifting through his colourfully unique wardrobe and lounging poolside in the Hollywood Hills wearing crystal-studded sandals amongst a sea of partygoers.
