Kylian Mbappé has won a World Cup, scored a hat trick in a World Cup final and is captain of France. At only 24 he has achieved much in his young career
On Saturday, he added more to his résumé by becoming Paris Saint-Germain’s all-time leading scorer in Ligue 1.
Mbappe, who netted his 139th goal in his 169th league match, surpassed Edinson Cavani’s tally. He scored the opener for his 139th league goal for the club in a crucial 3-1 victory against Lens.
Lionel Messi and Vitinha also scored for PSG before Lens’ Przemyslaw Frankowski scored a penalty.
Despite Lens putting up a challenge for the Ligue 1 title, they are currently nine points behind PSG, who are in the lead.
In the past weeks, PSG’s performance hasn’t been good. They have lost two home games to Lyon Stade Rennais.
“If there was a match we had to win, it was this one, after the two straight losses at the Parc. The lens is one of our rivals and obviously, it was important to win.”
PSG coach Christophe Galtier said after the match
“There are seven games left. I know that Lens and Marseille will not give up. We must continue to be focused. I just saw that we have been in the top spot since the beginning of the season.
“We have to continue like that and prepare well for the Angers game, which comes early, on Friday. Our fixture list looks favourable, but it is only favourable if we invest ourselves fully and show a great determination to win.”
How many goals does Kylian Mbappé have?
Mbappé has been a prolific goalscorer throughout his career netting a total of 267 goals in 380 game appearances.
For Paris Saint-Germain, he has scored 202 goals in 252 appearances. 27 goals in 60 games at AS Monaco and 38 in 68 appearances for the French national team.
These statistics make him widely regarded as one of the potential heirs to Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi.
PSG next plays Angers at the Stade Raymond-Kopa on April 21.
