Sub-Saharan artists have been lauded for their spirited rhythms and formidable musical abilities. Conversely, in recent times, R&B has garnered widespread acclaim and success on an international scale. Numerous fans already know that the playlist Tantalizers features several acts that excel in this manner. However, this marked only the start.

Spotify’s most recent collaboration with COLORSxSTUDIOS, this celebration of African R&B has attained new heights. To clarify for the uninitiated, COLORSxSTUDIOS is not a conventional music website. It distinguishes itself by merging the simplicity of videos with the prowess inherent in vocals. Performers perform against black-and-white backdrops, and the emphasis remains on their artistic prowess.

Their most popular program, A COLORS SHOW, is evolving due to the influence of Spotify. The compilation includes works by six Kenyan R&B artists: Karun, Xenia Manasseh, Zowie Kengocha, Maya Amolo, Bien, and Lisa Oduor-Noah.

This collaboration entailed more than mere visual and auditory perception. Spotify and COLORS established a collaborative space for seasoned and emerging musicians, artists, and producers at a recent event in Nairobi. An artistic assemblage was curated by eighteen artists hailing from the African diaspora during three days in Nairobi.

Simply put, the collaboration between ColorsxStudios and Spotify not only demonstrated the calibre of African R&B artists but also established a precedent for subsequent partnerships that are more synergistic. It demonstrates that enchantment can occur when individuals with diverse abilities collaborate to achieve a common objective. Africa is not only teeming with talented individuals, but it is also emerging as a superpower in collaborative music.

Karun Gets Featured On COLORXSTUDIOS

Karun, a Kenyan vocalist, is an ambassador for his country through his participation in ColorsXStudios. ColorsxStudios and Spotify are paying increased attention to Kenyan R&B due to six special “A Colours Show” performances.

An alternate vocal performer is featured at each performance. Karun was third and performed new music on the renowned COLORS stage. Both Lisa Oduor and Xenia Manasseh appeal to her. Her physical appearance demonstrates her commitment and skill as a solitary performer.

The performer-songwriter delivered Only You live in the studio. She was ecstatic that Spotify Africa and ColorsxStudios had recognised her talent. She displays her meditative and soulful style in full measure when she performs the song. It’s a piece centred around a former romantic partner that is universally relatable, if not widely understood.

“I hope to keep discovering who I am and just being fiercely myself in whatever medium that is, and so music is what I’m doing right now, and I hope it kind of just gets a bit more powerful,” Karun asserts regarding her future objectives.

According to the vocalist, musician, and producer, her passion for music was ignited by her father. A soulful essence characterises her artistic approach, although she does venture into various disciplines.

Her fans have witnessed her transition from Camp Mulla, a defunct alternative hip-hop duo, to an accomplished solo artist with a catalogue of tracks and albums. She can discuss her journey of self-discovery and development.

This collaboration is between COLORSxSTUDIOS and the home of all COLORS programs, the most famous Afro R&B playlist on Spotify, Tantalizers. Presently, Karun appears on the cover.

Attend Karun’s ColorsxStudios performance and participate in the discussion. In addition to learning more about the Berklee graduate, fans can listen to her perform the song.

Karun’s Musical Journey

Karun has become accustomed to prominence. Due to her notoriety, former president Uhuru Kenyatta attended her Muthaiga listening party in 2013. She appeared in Camp Mulla, nominated for a BET Award as a teenager.

She continued after the group disbanded. Karun’s singing career has been arguably the most successful with the possible exception of Kus Ma, Shappaman (formerly Young Kass), Taio (Taio Tripper), and Mykie Tooni.

Karun’s Awards and Nominations

The singing voyage of Karun teaches us much. In 2019, Forbes included her on their renowned “Top 30 Under 30 Africa” list. Additionally, an AFRIMMA award and the Cafe Ngoma Awards’ “R&B Artist of the Year” distinction are included on her list. Karun has been nominated for the People’s Choice Awards Kenya in 2023.
